Air Chathams has been operating on the Chatham Islands for over 25 years and with the mainland New Zealand communities Whakatane, Whanganui and the Kapiti Coast more recently.  

The airline is well and truly an integral part of the Chatham Islands local community and endeavours to have the same connections and relationships with newer destinations. 

We pride ourselves on being actively involved in developing local economies and communities by providing a safe, and reliable connections between our destinations for freight and scheduled passenger services.

We have two main offices.  Our head office is located in Te One on Chatham Island and provides:

  • booking and reservation services
  • freight consigning and collection
  • sales information and quotes for group bookings and charter services

 

 

 

Our mainland New Zealand operations are managed from our base at the Auckland Domestic Airport and this is where our engineers, operations, management and customer services teams connect and report to.  

Many of our team members are based around the country, supporting regional growth and communities while we serve our customers with the same dedication and commitment Air Chathams is known for.

Management Team

Marion and Craig Emeny

Owners

Craig and Marion are as much a part of the business, airline and crew as anyone else on the team.  Craig regularly flies a number of our routes and Marion can usually be found in the Chatham Islands Office at Te One looking after our accounts.  Not just pilot and office administrator, they are both integral to the management and support of staff both on the Chathams Islands and in mainland New Zealand.  

Marion is an excellent photographer and many of her beautiful images of the islands and activities around the company are a result of her work.

Craig was awarded an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2017 and he says it is recognition for the entire team at the airline, many of whom have been with it since it was formed. Both Craig and Marion continue to support their home community in the Chatham Islands and extend this thoughtfulness to the new communities they serve as well.  Care of the people around them has been shown through community fundraisers, often providing free transport for people and freight, search and rescue and emergency flight operations when required.

Between them Craig and Marion have two sons and two daughters who have all grown up in and around the aviation business.  Duane Emeny is the company General Manager and a pilot as is his brother, Matt Emeny.  It's not uncommon to have at least two of them in the cockpit together on some flights!

Growing up in the business with planes and pilots around him, its no surprise Duane Emeny went off to Massey University to study Aviation and Aviation and Management.  A commercial pilot for many years, Duane has also been responsible for a specialised charter subsidiary for Air Chathams before moving on to full Airline and Charter Management responsibilities.  

Now the General Manager, Duane is just as busy as his father was before him ensuring the efficient, safe and high levels of service Air Chathams is renowned for continues.

Across all aspects of the business, Duane still flies on a regular basis, and oversees the management of the engineering, ground crew, commercial and charter and customer service teams on a daily basis.  

Up to date with the latest tech and trends, Duane is making sure Air Chathams is prepared and fit for the next generation of flying and serving those communities the airline is connected with.  He is an avid supporter of the Chatham Islands and believes the fisheries and tourism opportunities will continue to grow with the extension of the runway and integrated Air Chathams aircraft and services.

 

Gray Tinley

Customer Services Manager

Gray is Air Chathams Customer Service Manager.  He originally came to work for the airline in 2008 while residing in Tonga and remained with us for the following five years.  He rejoined the airline in 2015 and returned to Auckland, New Zealand.  

Gray is often the person on the end of reservations phone, the person escorting passengers to the plane and the person sorting out all sorts of queries, questions and special requests that come into the office.  A former chef for the senior members of the Tongan royal family, Gray has very high standards for customer service and the hospitality and care we show our travellers.  

He has been the trainer of many of our ground crew and check-in staff and enjoys getting out into the regions to meet our business and leisure clients at events and shows.  Often seen at air shows managing the DC3 crew and passengers, he always has a ready quip for the team while being the ultimate professional.

Adrian Ali

Commercial Manager

Adrian was first involved with Chathams Pacific in 2007 while working as the Manager, Yield and Sales for Air Fiji.  The airline's Convair 580 was leased for Fiji domestic charter flights and regional flights to Tonga and Tuvalu.

This association lead itself to Adrian’s employment by Chathams Pacific subsidiary, Air Chathams, as the Executive Manager – Commercial in Tonga from 2009 to 2013.  During this time, Adrian was responsible for scheduling, pricing, revenue management, sales and marketing and the day to day operations of Chathams Pacific in the region.

Adrian then went on to join Fiji Link, a subsidiary of Fiji Airways as Manager Airports and Ground Operations for the next five years.  He was responsible for 9 domestic airports in Fiji and also provided support to other regional airports in Tonga, Tuvalu, Samoa and Vanuatu.

With the depth of his experience and knowledge, Adrian came back to Air Chathams in 2017 as the Commercial Manager based in Auckland, looking after revenue management and charter pricing.  He is always seen with a smile on his face, often at customer and trade shows and willing to help the rest of the team wherever he can. 

Operations Team

Roy Mackereth

Operations Control Manager

Roy confesses he caught the flying bug at a young age and as a result followed his heart into aviation.  He has a Diploma of Aviation and on completion went straight into aviation operations control and within two years became a member of the Air Chathams team. 

A full-on role organising flight rosters, pay loads, schedules and co-ordinating staff, it was only six months until he was running the department.  Operations Control takes a special person as Roy is the one who manages unplanned changes to aircraft and route schedules while taking into account the need to provide excellent customer service even in a disrupted environment.

It requires collaboration and integration meaning sometimes Roy is everyone’s “go to”.  Air Chathams couldn’t do what we do without him.  Always helpful and with a cheery hello as he goes about his day, Roy manages to deliver top service in what is often challenging circumstances.  As he says modestly, “I just make it work.”
