Privately owned and operated by Craig & Marion Emeny, Air Chathams was established in 1984. From humble beginnings flying small Cessna aircraft between Chatham & Pitt Island, Air Chathams has grown to employ almost 100 staff spread throughout New Zealand.
Air Chathams pioneered the transport of live crayfish from the Chathams to mainland New Zealand, opening new markets and providing a vital key in the economic development of the islands. Today Air Chathams export over 700 tonne of seafood from the Islands annually.
In 2014 Air Chathams established a flight operations and maintenance base at Auckland International Airport. From this base the company provides maintenance services both internally and to third party airlines under contract. It is also the home base of Air Chathams charter fleet consisting of 50 seat Convair 580’s, a Douglas DC-3, and Fairchild Metroliner.
Craig Emeny has built the airline by providing a safe, reliable air service to some of New Zealand’s most remote locations. His passion to provide customers with the best possible service to meet their unique requirements has enabled the airline to operate effectively for over 30 years.
