What we're doing...

As regular passengers and friends of Air Chathams you will know the importance we place on providing excellent customer service and this includes keeping you informed.  Led by our Safety and Quality Assurance Manager, Donna Sutherland, we have formed a Safety Response Team and have developed a Management Plan specific to COVID-19.

At present, like the rest of New Zealand, our staff are working from home and only essential staff are working to provide freight charters where required for rapid delivery.

Here’s what we are doing:

  • Ensuring external information sources for our actions are authentic and valid via NZ Government Health, Trade and Travel advisory services.
  • Reducing the risk of infection for all future passengers.
  • Reducing the risk of infected or suspected infected persons entering our operational site.

We’re doing this in a number of ways.

1.       Check-in

When flights resume, all our airport terminal and check-in staff will continue to be thoroughly briefed on assisting passengers to determine their personal level of risk.

Hand sanitizer will be available at all check-in counters for customer use.

During operation all airport terminal counters, computers and work rooms are being sanitized at least once daily and between daily flight departures.  Some of our check-in staff may also be using disposable gloves during this period.

2.       Cleaning

All our oeprationall aircraft are cleaned twice daily with approved and recommended strength cleaning products for sanitization against COVID-19.  Areas cleaned include tray tables, arm rests and seat arms, safety belt clasps, head rests, overhead locker surfaces, toilets and aircraft galley surfaces.

Any engineering or ground crew that are required to work on or assist with an aircraft during its operational day will wear gloves on-board.

All our aircraft have had their air filtration systems fully checked and maintained for optimum performance.

3.       Staff

All Air Chathams staff and teams throughout the country will continue to be fully briefed on recommended behavior and activity to avoid close contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 and the maintenance of our operational bases for optimized protection.

We are doing this as a responsible airline and partner with many businesses and regional communities around New Zealand.  We want to work together to be kind, be safe and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

What you can do...

We would like to ask people for their patience and understanding while we work through the large numbers of emails and phone calls we have experienced during this time.  Our teams are also working from home and are doing their best to provide you with the answers you need as quickly as they can..

Please stay at home during Alert Level 4.  The risk of infection is lowered when following these guidelines and your safety is always important to us.

So, please,

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use a hand sanitizer.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues and clothing and wash your hands afterwards.
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Do not share personal items such as pens, mobile phones, utensils or similar with others.

We will provide further updates as we are able.

Our activity is regularly updated in line with Ministry of Health information as it is received.
