Called the world’s ‘coolest little capital’ Wellington is known for its vibrant arts scene, world class café and restaurant culture, and active outdoor lifestyle.
Set around an attractive waterfront, you'll be hard pressed to find a city in the world that's easier to get around. Wellington enjoys more cafes, bars and restaurants than New York City, and its coffee and craft beer producers are internationally recognised. A creative, cosmopolitan city, Wellington combines the sophistication of a capital with the warmth and personality of a village.
Known also as the ‘windy city’ in New Zealand, Wellington is well known for its bitter Southerlies & strong gusty Northerlies. So make sure you pack for all seasons. Wellingtonians are well accustomed to their wild weather and you will notice many landmarks and sculptures around the city reflecting this aspect of the everyday life.
Te Papa Museum is arguably New Zealand’s marquee museum, with an extensive collection that will both inform and impress. Entry is free, and considered a must do. Along with a visit to Weta Workshops to discover the magic behind the clever people that created the Lord of the Rings trilogies. And just to unwind take a stroll down colourful Courtney Place and take in the sights and sounds of this very cool, vibrant capital city.
