Welcome to the Kāpiti Coast! We’re home to around 50,000 people in a string of coastal villages and communities facing the iconic Kāpiti Island. Friends and family from around New Zealand are a big part of our active but relaxed lifestyle. We enjoy connecting with them as well as our other visitors whenever we can - both in our region and beyond.
When you’re here you’ll find outstanding natural beauty, 40kms of unspoilt beaches, the mighty Waikanae River, a warm climate and friendly people – a great place to experience Kiwi life and share in the Coast’s warm hospitality.
Get active or reconnect and unwind with nature
Kāpiti has a fantastic range of outdoor activities to thrill your wild side. From enjoying our fabulous network of shared trails for walking, biking and horse-riding to playing a round of golf we have it covered. There’s also quad biking, fishing, snorkelling, kayaking, diving, surfing and kite surfing to choose from.
For a quieter experience unwind in nature in one of our many prized reserve and park areas or head to our very special Kāpiti Island Nature and Marine Reserve. The island and its environment offers one the best opportunities to explore and learn about New Zealand’s native flora, fauna, wildlife and marine life.
Kāpiti has a range of range of accommodation options that take advantage of its remarkable settings and the beauty of our environment. So take the time to overnight in one of our local motels, resorts or luxury lodges or glamp it up on Kāpiti Island.
Warm coastal hospitality
Stunning seafood, fresh local produce, locally crafted beer and artisan roasted coffee, our world famous cheeses – we’re as renowned for our amazing menus as we are for our relaxed hospitality. Indulge in fine dining or enjoy the quirky edge to our coastal cuisine and some of the freshest seafood in the country.
Great connections and transport
Just 45 min north of Wellington by road or scenic rail, Kāpiti is an ideal place to base yourself for leisure or business and connect into the big city for your day-trip or meeting.
