Q: What are Air Chathams baggage allowances ?
- Baggage Allowance is 20kg per passenger including infants
- Hand baggage must not exceed 5kg
Q: Do you need to book you accommodation before arrival?
As the Chatham Islands are small in population and are very remote - you need to have confirmed accommodation before your arrival.
Q: When & how do I check In?
- Check In: is 45 minutes prior to departure at local times
- Check In: is at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Napier at the Air New Zealand Domestic Terminals
Q: Does my infant get charged a fare?
Infants (aged 7 days to 23 months) travel free
Infants must be seated on an adults lap and not occupy a seat.
One infant per one adult only.
Please note that infants must be more than 7 days old to travel with Air Chathams.
Q: Can I take oversized or heavy items such as bikes or fishing gear with me?
Over-sized or excess baggage items such as fishing, diving equipment or bicycles may be carried subject to the following:

You must inform our office at least two days in advance of any special requirements
- We will need to know the weight and dimensions of such items
- Excess baggage rates apply ($3.30 per kg)
- Carriage is not guaranteed and your over-sized/excess items may be off loaded or carried on a separate flight
Where guaranteed carriage is required please discuss this with us at least two days in advance and preferably at the time of booking. Additional fees may be applicable.
Q: What fare classes does Chathams have and how do they work?
Albatross & Taiko Fares: These fares can be refunded and changed. Depending on availability an upgrade may be charged. Payment is required before flight.
Weka Fares: this is a non refundable fare but can be changed up to 24 hours before departure. Depending on availability of fares an upgrade may be charged. Must be paid for within 7 days of booking or it will be cancelled.
Black Robin Fares: This is a non-refundable and non-transferable fare. USE IT OR LOSE IT! This fare can not be changed to another name or date. Must be paid for within 7 days of booking or it will be cancelled.
Q: Can I make changes to my booking?
Some changes to your booking are permitted depending on the fare class and time before your flight. Please check the terms and conditions of carriage on this website and attached to your itinerary.
Q: How old does my child have to be to travel as a child?
Your child must be between 2 years and under 12 years on the day of travel to be classed as a child.
As soon as they have turned twelve years they need to purchase an adult's seat.
Proof of age in the form of a copy of their birth certificate or passport may be required at the time of making the booking
Q: Do you have Eftpos facilities?
Yes, Air Chathams has Eftpos facilities in our office at Te One and at the airport.
Q: Can I bring my pet?
Yes, animals can travel with Air Chathams but they must be in a secure leakproof cage.
Q: Does Air Chathams supply animal cages?
No, we do not have cages available you will need to provide your own.
